Following the Leader....or, is it sometimes the other way around....??

As we all make our way through this dance that we call Life, we begin to understand that, of course, we want to live our own best, most authentic, fulfilling and harmoniously balanced lives as possible and, therefore, provide this example....to pave the way, for others to follow along....

Ballroom dancing is no different....
We can look at this at the most face value and obvious of ways first....
In partnership dance, we have two people who have each their own specific roles.....

It MUST be that one is the lead, the one always looking forward, directing the movement of the two, looking out for others and obstacles that may disrupt their path, navigating their way around the dance floor with as much courtesy and grace as possible.....ideally, making it look and feel just so pleasant and easy as they move along.....

The follow, though, has JUST as equally important of a job.....this person cannot just sink into the arms of their partner being “dead weight” to be dragged around, adding unnecessary extra work and exertion......

For this agreement to work at its best, the follow needs to be an ENGAGED follow, picking up on energy being either pushed through or pulled away, changes in elevation going up and coming back down....all kinds of different subtle yet distinct cues from their partner.....
In other words, they need to allow themselves to be open to the idea of RECEIVING from their partner.....and, not getting so caught up in their minds and being fearful of having a misstep that their judgement and ability to just “go with the flow” gets clouded......

There is such a thing as the concept of Masculine and Feminine energies.....don’t get caught up in the terms, though....
They are just simply labels that are used to make some sort of sense of these things.....this has NOTHING to with gender.....it’s just a way in which we can think of the energies being each other’s equal yet opposite....
In fact, ALL of us have BOTH ENERGIES within our own selves, whether you identify as a man or a woman....sex does not matter at all.....

Again, what this is really referring to is two opposing energies, that, interestingly, actually, work best when they are balanced out with each other.....finding a perfect balance between the two, coming into an alignment with one another, unifying as one unit for the purpose of being able to work better together, for everyone’s highest good, rather than apart or separately......

Sometimes the roles can even be reversed....if there is some slack to pick up from the other side....for instance, better for the follow to have the quick thinking to catch their partner if another couple is about to come crashing in, yes....???!

In this way, anyway, we can think of this type of relationship as being a great example of a yin and yang scenario.

This is my point....it is this world of duality/polarity that we live in coming together with the world of oneness.....it is how two separate Individuals of male and female can come together in procreation and create a new “one”....it is how your brain has two sides/hemispheres, your left and your right, always needing to work in unison in order for “its human” to be able to accomplish anything effectively.....

Basically, it is one sending out signals and the other being open to receiving.....one being intuitive and mindful and the other being more action oriented.....one creating the organization and the planning and the other finding and displaying the beauty of the creation....
It is literally how EVERY single thing on this planet works.....so, why, then, would ballroom dancing be any different....
Of course it isn’t!! :))

Two willing participants....One being the navigator and driver, the other along for the beautiful, smooth ride......what a great team they are!!

I tell you what, when you are able to tap in....to tune into this frequency of being truly in sync with another and move across your dance floor of Life in this kind of a way, in perfect harmony, traveling together as one, it is TRULY a VERY, VERY POWERFUL and MAGICAL journey, a truly glorious song and dance, indeed.....!!! :))

In the ballroom dancing world, there is a phrase that we use a lot......
“The man/(lead) is the frame and the woman/(follow) is the picture.”

Let that sink in for a minute.....this, actually, doesn’t even necessarily have to mean you and another physical person....

I, myself, actually, take it as meaning that YOU want to become YOUR OWN best partner first and foremost.....

Don’t be afraid to take charge and be the lead in your own life.....but, also, don’t forget to being open to receive.....

THEN, we shall see where you go from there.....!!!!

Happy dancing!!!
